Zanatta: “Today, the hardest stage: let’s look ahead”.
Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali
3rd stage: San Marino-San Marino (147.1 km)
A very hard stage. With a lot of height difference, with the World Tour teams fighting to keep up the pace, with the guys of EOLO-KOMETA that have clenched their teeth as long as they could. The third day of the “Coppi e Bartali”, in the beautiful setting of San Marino, can be summarized in these few words: spectacular stage, but where there was no space for our colors. And DS Stefano Zanatta confirms it: “It was the queen stage, by far the hardest of all. We started immediately strong and uphill, Sergio Garcia tried a couple of times to take the breakaway but he didn’t make it. Then six of us went away and we stayed in the main group until the penultimate lap when Garcia, Fetter and Ropero held on as the pace picked up. With 30 to go they lost contact and dropped off, so we thought about the next stages and in the end we saved a little strength”
At the start of the stage Mark Christian didn’t take part, as he was suffering from a fever yesterday.
