Bais defends his green jersey in the breakaway with Maestri
Tirreno Adriático (2.UWT)
Stage 3: Murlo – Terni (170km)
Attack is the best form of defence. And after Davide Bais’ hard work yesterday to take the mountains leader’s jersey, today it was his turn to defend it. He more than fulfilled the objective, being part of the breakaway of the day in which Mirco Maestri also filtered through.
Therefore, double presence of EOLO Kometa and the goal only in the 35th kilometre of the stage: to pass in first place the only climb and to secure the green jersey. To extend Davide Bais’ presence on the podium as the best climber for another day.
It was accomplished, it was achieved, and although the gap reached more than 6 minutes, the peloton was relentless again and did not give the leaders a chance at any time. The favourites wanted to contest the bonus stage and even opened a gap, but everything came together again. The sprint finish saw Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) win, with Vincenzo Albanese just missing out on a top-10 finish.
Davide Bais: “Yes, goal reached: I really wanted to keep this jersey also because tomorrow our sponsor Luca Spada will join us and I wanted him to see me in green. I must say that it was nice and particular to go in the breakaway together with my brother Mattia, even if we didn’t have much time to chat. And now? Tomorrow it will be very hard, but we will try: for sure, EOLO-KOMETA will show itself…”.
