Davide Bais tries to make his Camiño
O Gran Camiño (2.1)
Stage 3: Maceda-Luintra (148’4km)
Davide Bais jumped out of the peloton in search of the breakaway of the day, looking for permission from the peloton that they didn’t get. Eight riders got together in the lead, relieving with understanding and at high speed. But after enjoying 3 and a half minutes, the gap dropped to a minute just before the decisive part.
Three major climbs in the Luintra area broke the race into a thousand pieces and neutralised the breakaway. Erik Fetter fought to be in front, but the selection of the leading group was total and EOLO Kometa had no chance to fight in the final climbs.
At the finish line, Samuele Rivi was the best rider and everything is at the expense of tomorrow’s time trial to close the Spanish tour and think about the intense Italian calendar.
Davide Bais: “Today’s goal was to be in the breakaway. At the beginning I went away with Fancellu but they caught us. Even so, I was able to get into a new break at kilometre 25 and then I managed to join the escapees. The final part was really hard and the fatigue of riding fast at the front caused us to be neutralised. Tomorrow we’ll see what we can do in the time trial”.
