The climb to Ézaro never disappoints
O Gran Camiño (2.1)
Stage 2: Bertamiráns-Mirador de Ézaro (183’5km)
It was not a particularly active day for the EOLO Kometa riders, who could not filter into the breakaway of the day and rode in the peloton looking to save a day with more than 3200 metres of accumulated altitude gain.
The punctuated climbs, the narrow roads and the high pace of the peloton gave no option to the breakaway, so everything was to be decided on the climb to Ézaro. Next to the beautiful waterfall and with just over 1 kilometre at an average gradient of 14%, with ramps of over 30% and spectacular views.
Neither Davide Bais nor Erik Fetter (who wore the best young rider’s jersey as second in this classification) could get into the fight for the overall and were just over 1 minute behind the winner Woods (Israel), with their eyes set on the remaining days that will put the finishing touch to the team’s Spanish tour.
