Coppa Sabatini: “The right trains only pass once…”
Coppa Sabatini – GP Città di Peccioli
Peccioli – Peccioli (210 km)
The gray sky, a few sprinkles of rain, the usual desire to win that every time is measured against the strength of the opponents and the hardness of the race. The GP Peccioli Coppa Sabatini was this, with a sentence that could sum it all up: when you lose the right train, then winning becomes almost impossible. First, a little bit of chronicle: great Michael Valgren who has repeated the success obtained yesterday at the Giro di Toscana. The Danish rider did a great job in sprinting against the favorite Sonny Colbrelli. There was the classic breakaway of the day (five riders, none from EOLO-KOMETA) that reached up to 7′ of advantage and was taken back at 40 km from the finish line. And it’s here that the famous “right train” passed: a small group (among others Colbrelli, Moscon, Valgren, Rota) took advantage, and the group was no longer able to return.
To tell the truth, there was some attempt, led by our Gavazzi, but the race was already gone…
“I tried – said the rider from Valtellina – but it was really impossible to catch the group in front. After all, this is cycling: trains pass only once, and if they are lost they don’t come back anymore…”.
