Sensational sprint of Vincenzo Albanese in Aranda de Duero to sign another third position in this Vuelta a Burgos

Stage 4: Roa de Duero – Aranda de Duero (149 km)
Italian Vincenzo Albanese came close to victory on Friday in a fourth of the Vuelta a Burgos that finished in the town of Aranda de Duero with a crowded sprint in which the fastest rider was again Colombian Juan Sebastián Molano. Albanese, moving shrewdly in the last kilometre, was in a good position to launch his sprint on the left side. Alba was close to victory, his second third place in this edition and accumulates eight ‘top ten’ this season.
The volata was the epilogue to a day in which again a breakaway, this time of six riders, tried to break with the resolution to the sprint. A breakaway of early gestation that, however, never had more than three minutes of margin. A breakaway in which the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team had the double representation of the Spanish Diego Pablo Sevilla and the Hungarian Marton Dina. Alongside them, EF’s Hugh Carthy, Euskaltel’s Mikel Bizkarra and Burgos-BH’s Diego Rubio and Mario Aparicio. Within the last 35 km the breakaway was selected and facing the final part Dina, Rubio and Carthy remained in the lead. At 6.5 km from the finish line, the final neutralisation took place.
“Although I don’t feel as good as I did before the crash in the Vuelta a Castilla y León, I do feel a little better. In the end it has been a day to learn how to deal with a situation like this, always contributing to the team as much as I can”, said a Diego Pablo Sevilla who has recovered after having a bad time, especially in the first stage. Francesco Gavazzi, who suffered a crash during a training session before travelling to Burgos, from which he has not recovered and whose discomfort forced him to abandon the race, has not been able to recover. “The injuries are getting worse and in these conditions it is better to stop and recover completely with a view to the next objectives”, says the captain.
Vincenzo Albanese, again third in a stage in Burgos: “We are getting closer and closer. It was a pity not to be able to finish this sprint with a victory. First of all, I have to thank the team for the great work they did all day long to support me in the best possible way for the sprint. I’m happy with this third position, but also a bit bitter. The desire for victory is great”.
This Saturday, the Vuelta a Burgos comes to an end at the summit of the Lagunas de Neila. A queen stage, the usual closing stage of the race, where Mark Christian arrives in 22nd position (one better than on the previous day), 3’26” behind leader Romain Bardet.
