Giro d’Italia, the dream can start

The Giro d’Italia is a dream. A dream for the children who wait to see it pass by on the road, with the riders who are heroes riding their bicycles. A dream for the fans who see it as the most beautiful moment of the year, a sacred and unmissable appointment. A dream for every cyclist, who lives imagining to ride it. A dream come true, for the Eolo-Kometa: that from Saturday will be part of the wonderful pink circus that will start from Turin to end in Milan on May 30th after 21 stages.

Here they are. Here are the names of the eight riders who will have the honor of defending the colors of the team and the opportunity to live their dream. The Italians Vincenzo Albanese, Edward Ravasi, Francesco Gavazzi, Samuele Rivi, Manuel Belletti, and Lorenzo Fortunato. Then the Hungarian Marton Dina and the British Mark Christian.

21 stages, then. 21 stages, two days of rest, 3479.9 kilometers and 48 thousand meters of elevation gain, two time trials and eight uphill finishes. In the race there will be 23 teams and 184 riders (8 per team). There will be a lot of mountain with a last week that promises to be hard and spectacular, there will be space for the sprinters and there will be land for the day’s exploits. The Eolo-Kometa will be there: day by day. To honor the race, to prove that it deserved the wild card, to excite all those who will watch it run. And that, is a promise.

Edward Ravasi: “I’m happy, three years later, to be back at the Giro d’Italia: but this time, I’ll be back with a different flavor. If the first time was useful to gain some experience, now I arrive convinced that I can do something important: I’m in good condition, I prepared well, and I can also take a look at the general classification. It will certainly be nice for the whole team to go there with the right desire and the nastiness that is needed: because a wild card should be honored and deserved. Eolo-Kometa has a group made of a mix of youth and experience, able to perform well on all terrains: we’ll live the race day by day, we’re all in good shape and we all want to do something good”.

Ivan Basso: “The Giro d’Italia is the most beautiful race in the world. The pink jersey is the most beautiful jersey in the world. Every child dreams of running it, the boys who will run it with our jersey until a few years ago came back to school in a hurry to get right in front of the TV and not miss a minute of the stage. We come to this Giro with a strong team and the desire to do something nice, to try in some way to leave our mark and to run in our own way. We’ve worked hard and well: we’re not satisfied with the results so far because we believe that a team like ours should never be satisfied. But we’ve grown, we’ve grown as a team and as a working group, and we’re going to the Giro with the desire to grow further. We’re excited, and for me it will be nice to discover a race that has given me so much in my career under a new guise.”
