It will be a race, it will also be like a first day of school: after the days of retreat in the Comunitat Valenciana, after the postponements and the compulsory cancellations from the health situation, after the debuts on the Spanish roads, here we arrive in Italy. The Trofeo Laigueglia will be the perfect stage for the first Italian race of the EOLO-KOMETA (the first of a long series …), and it is normal to feel a little healthy emotion: the emotion that comes every time a story begins new, still to be written.
Seven riders from EOLO-KOMETA will battle over the 202 kilometers of the Ligurian race, with the final 11 kilometer circuit to be repeated four times: the Italians Albanese, Frapporti and Gavazzi, the Spanish Ropero, the British Archibald and Christian the Hungarian Dina. And there will certainly be a battle between all the runners who aspire to win the famous “tile” on the wall of the Ligurian town that hosts the signatures of all the winners from 1964 to today. And yes, everything will be decided in that final circuit with the ascent of Colla Micheri to be climbed four times that will be heard, and a lot.
Ivan Basso, general manager EOLO-KOMETA: “For us, the Italian team, making our debut in an Italian race is something exciting: we were looking forward to it, we can’t wait to race in what is a very important race for us. Because for our team, every race is an exam: we will never run a race in preparation for another race, but we will always race to try to make our mark. And we will do the same in Laigueglia as well, with the riders who are called to demonstrate to themselves, to their teammates and to us that they are worth and deserve that jersey they are wearing ”.
Francesco Gavazzi: “Laigueglia is a demanding race, which is decided in the last 50 kilometers with that circuit that does not leave a moment of breath: each passage on the Colla Micheri makes a selection and in the end only the strongest athletes will be left to fight for the victory. This year the starter park is really of the highest level, so there will be a great show: in the end those in better shape will play it, and we hope to be there too”.
