Premiummadrid and the Fundación Alberto Contador together in 2019
The Fundación Alberto Contador and Premiummadrid have reached an agreement so that throughout the 2019 season this leading firm in medical care focused on the world of sport supervises the different sports structures of the Kometa Cycling Team. Doctor Fernando Gutiérrez, director of the Sports Medicine Centre of the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), will be the reference doctor of the Kometa Cycling Team and will lead a team completed by physiotherapists Hector García, Jorge Buelga and Carlos Cadalso.
Founded in 2008 by Sergio Vázquez and Álvaro Guerrero, Premiummadrid Global Health has become a reference in the sector in just a decade thanks to its four medical and rehabilitation centres distributed throughout the Community of Madrid (Fuenlabrada, Pozuelo de Alarcón and two in the capital) and its two sports centres (Viña Fitness, San Sebastián de los Reyes; Piscinas M86, Madrid). More than 1,000 patients pass every day through facilities where more than a hundred professionals go about recovering from their ailments, preventing injuries and optimising their performance.
Already during this week the riders of the continental squad and the U23 team have come to the facilities of Pozuelo de Alarcón to undergo an exhaustive cardiological and ergometric review of the hand of doctors Fernando Gutiérrez and Manuel Marina, cardiologist of reference within the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport. The Kometa Cycling Team is Premiummadrid’s first experience in the field of professional cycling, although it already has extensive experience in other sports such as football, basketball, tennis, athletics, swimming, indoor football, paddle tennis, volleyball and hockey, among others. The Montakit Fuenlabrada basketball or the Agrupación Deportiva Alcorcón of the spanish silver football division are some of the elite clubs that work with Premiummadrid, as well as some twenty quarry sports groups linked to football.
Héctor García, head of the sports at Premiummadrid: “I would like to thank Fran Contador for the trust he has placed in Premium Madrid to provide the medical services for the teams. And also to our general directors. Álvaro Guerrero and Sergio Vázquez, the economic and human effort deposited to carry it forward. From Premium Madrid we face this project with great enthusiasm and the responsibility of offering the best service so that their athletes are always 100%. We are delighted to join a project that not only works with the aim of bringing out great athletes, but also trains them to have great values in life. With this union we take a step further to remain leaders in prevention, recovery, and optimization of all types of athletes. I am absolutely sure that this is the beginning of a long road together.
“We are very happy with this agreement, a possibility that had already arisen last year but could not materialize and that we have been maturing during this year. The coverage and support offered by Premiummadrid gives us a lot of peace of mind in the face of possible falls or incidents, things that we hope will not happen but are inherent to the competition, and for the preventive tests to which the riders will undergo to know how they are at all times at a level of health. Our riders are undoubtedly in the best hands, those of an experienced and talented team”, explains Francisco Javier Contador, general manager of the Fundación Alberto Contador.
