Samuele Rubino joins Polartec-Kometa 2019
The Italian Samuele Rubino reinforces the squad of the continental Polartec-Kometa for the next season. The Piedmontese rider (Novara, 29 January 2000) makes the leap to the professional structure of the Fundación Alberto Contador from the LVF-Lombardy squad.
Current transalpine champion of the junior category, title that he won last June on the Veneto roads, in the GP Sportivi di Loria, Rubino was one of the riders selected by the Italian Federation to compete in the junior endurance event of the past World Championships of Innsbruck, a meeting where he was involved in a fall that cut all his options in the race.
“When Ivan Basso contacts me last year, I immediately understood that it is the right team to grow at my best. My dream is to become a good ride. I have to thank my old team the LVF team, the Mapei Center, in particular Matteo Azzolini and Andrea Morelli, who have followed me already this year, and the Polartec-Kometa team for this opportunity and confidence to learn and grow”, explains Rubino.
“Samuele is a pure climber, one of the riders with more projection within the Italian panorama, especially in the mountains and in the hard and selective races”, contributes Félix García Casas, sports manager of the structures of the Alberto Contador Foundation. “In addition to the Italian junior championship he finished fifth in the 47th Carrera de la Paz, a very tough Czech junior event that is a reference, and ninth in the 73rd Grand Prix General Patton in Luxembourg. Being there in the top ten indicates that you drive very well in the general standings when the road gets uphill”.
During the 2008 season Rubino has obtained ten victories. In addition to the national junior championship, the new Polartec-Kometa team rider won the 39th Coppa Città di Cantù, the 71st Coppa Dondeo, the 55th Giro della Castellania, the 44th Trofeo Comune di Gussago, the 33rd Vittorio Giorgi Trophy, the 4th Giro delle Prese, the Cerreto Laghi Trophy, the Buffoni Trophy and, with his LVF-Lombardy team-mates, the Tecnosaldatura Grand Prix team time trial.
Rubino is the fifth rider to join the Italian-Spanish structure after the Portuguese Daniel Viegas, the Spaniard José Antonio García and the Italians Stefano Oldani (stagiare during the second part of this season) and Antonio Puppio.
