The Tour of Bretagne concluded with a seventh stage of demanding final in which the general classification had to be resolved. A day in which the absence of a cyclist with clear aspirations gave the members of the Polartec-Kometa the freedom to let themselves be seen in the race and to encourage the search for escapes and skirmishes. And in that eagerness to apply, with the Italian Matteo Moschetti looking for the escape from its first moments. In a career with constant alternatives, none of the attempts with members of the Madrid squad were consolidated and in the escape that was forged there was no representation.

The stage was finally won by Australian Robert Stannard (Mitchelton) alone, while the final overall was for Frenchman Fabien Schmidt (Cotes d´Armor). Luxembourg’s Michel Ries was the best of the Polartec-Kometa riders in 39th position and came to fulfil the role he had been assigned before the start of the race. Both Juan Camacho, who got up sick, and Matteo Moschetti ended up retiring during the dispute of this last stage.

Jesús Hernández, director: “The aim of the last day was to catch escapes. It was fought and at times achieved. But the race was very crazy. Our evaluation of this week is good, because the attitude of the riders has been very good, the level of competition was very high and winning is always impossible. It is true that at some point we could have expected more, especially because of the way the Tour of Normandy had gone, but this has been a really demanding week and in the end we have arrived very fair. So we’re happy to leave and starting to think about the next objective, which will be the Vuelta a Aragón”.
