Giro della Toscana continues Polti Kometa’s Italian classics tour

Giro della Toscana (1.1)
Pontedera - Pontedera (182'75km)
Wednesday 11th september

The GP Industria e Artigianatto inaugurated the Italian classics calendar that Team Polti Kometa is facing this September. Next wednesday it is the turn of the Giro della Toscana in a week with four more races.

There will be 182 kilometres of route with start and finish in Pontedera. The initial part of the route is uphill, with the climb to Casciana Alta. Then S. Pietro Belvedere and the two laps of the circuit of Peccioli, with the climb to Monte Serra of almost 13 kilometres that should break the race before a much more favourable finish, even with the option of the race regrouping in those last 20 kilometres.

Team Polti Kometa’s squad has a clear climbing profile, relying on Davide Piganzoli, Paul Double and Matteo Fabbro, as well as Spaniards Alex Martín and Fernando Tercero. Specialists when the road goes uphill, the terrain of this Giro della Toscana is perfectly suited to them. Completing the line-up are Mattia Bais and Andrea Garosio, who will be looking for their chances to fight for the breakaway and to help their team-mates in their quest for the best possible result in the competition.

Davide Piganzoli: ‘It’s a route that I like and where I hope to give my best, to be competitive and to be able to be in the leading groups looking for a good result’.

Giovanni Ellena, sport director: ‘It’s a very long race and much more suitable for climbers. I think that after last Sunday’s race in which we didn’t take any risks, we will race with more ambition with our best riders in the mountains and we will try to be lucky’.
