Iván Loaisa sixth and Iker Díaz best rider from Cantabria on the time trial of Vuelta a Cantabria

The first stage of the Vuelta a Cantabria was held in the streets of Santander. The uphill time trial to La Atalaya marked the first differences of the race. Iván Loaisa was the best of the team in sixth position. In addition, Iker Díaz took the jersey of best cyclist from Cantabria in the general classification.

In a short but explosive time trial, Iker Díaz (11th) set the best provisional time with 1:50:81 during a good part of the race. Finally he was seven hundredths of a second off the top 10 of the day, but he could be the best cyclist of Cantabria. Iván Loaisa (6th), who arrives very strong at the end of the season, was the last rider of the team to take the start and was the one who set the best time among his teammates. The Andalusian finished with a time of 1:49:37.

Isaac Cantón: “We can’t draw conclusions from such a short time trial, but it seems that Iván, Moreira and Iker are going to be our men to guide to make a good general classification. We will go day by day. The first impression is good because they have been close to the best. We will fight until the last day, we have a good atmosphere and a good team and we will go for it”.

Iván Loaisa: “It was an agonizing time trial, we had to give everything and even though it was only 800 meters it was long. I missed my legs a little, but I’m happy. We have a very strong team and we will fight for the overall”.
