A last ‘classic’ before going back to stage races
After a successful weekend where the team meet all the podium places in Toledo and Ciudad Real, Xàtiva will be the next objective with a one-day race format before facing the three stage races that will close the 2024 campaign.
The Trofeu Fira d’Agost will take the team to Valencia to race on a Monday, something unusual in the amateur calendar. The squad will be composed of seven riders and headed by Pablo García, who will be a professional within the structure for the next two seasons. Luca Bagnara, stagiere with the professional team, will also be in Xàtiva. Álex García will return to competition after a short break after accumulating great performances in June and July. Manuel Sanroma was fifth in Tommaso Bessega’s victory in the recent GP a Toledo Flnadriens and will compete again this week with the team. Antonio González will also be present in Xàtiva after a very regular campaign and next to the above mentioned, Dario Giuliano and Daniel Tenorio after a great first season in the category. Finally, the great novelty in the squad will be Jose Miguel Moreira, who like Eleazar Jiménez, will have the opportunity to compete in a race with the amateur structure.
The route of the race will be developed on a circuit to which the cyclists will have to make four laps with two climbs for each turn. In addition, at the beginning of the race they will also complete two laps before starting the demanding part of the race. The Benigánim pass (3rd) and the Serrragrossa pass (3rd) will be the climbs to be overcome by the riders.
Miguel Moreira will make his debut with the u-23 team in a race that will be demanding: “The truth is that I’m happy and anxious at the same time, because being able to compete in a race with the u-23s is an important step that means a lot to any junior. I’m in good shape, I feel strong after the good feelings I had in the national championship. I know it’s going to be a tough first experience, as it’s 160 kilometers on an apparently tough course, but I feel ready to help the team achieve its goals,” said the young Portuguese rider.
“It will be 162 kilometers, with two small laps and four big ones with two climbs in each of them so there are going to be many alternatives during the race as it is such a winding terrain, with great and numerous participation. We have a very competitive ‘8’ for this type of profile, in good shape as they have shown in recent weeks, and those who return to the competition will continue with the same dynamic, as they will have their chance, as well as a very valuable teamwork to compete in the race. Again, on this occasion Moreira will be the junior who will test in the amateur calendar, just as Eleazar did”, explained team manager Miguel Gómez.
