Team Polti Kometa opens the Settimana Coppi e Bartali with Fetter in breakaway and Sevilla in 9th place
Team Polti Kometa came to Romagna to compete in the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali following the beautiful Milan-San Remo last Saturday. The opening stage, covering just under 110 km from the sea to the hills and back, didn’t disappoint: Erik Fetter initiated a 4-men breakaway that held on for almost ninety kilometers, Paul Double warmed up the legs by stretching the peloton once it was catching up to the leaders, and Diego Sevilla finished 9th in the sprint behind the finisher Brenner.
“Stages as short and tense as these are always difficult to manage,” says the satisfied sports director Giovanni Ellena. “The boys did a great job getting into the breakaway and then navigating the Pesaro roller coaster. Leading the group in the final ups and downs, Double avoided risks by staying in a good position, and from tomorrow in Riccione he’s ready to vie for the general classification!”
Let’s hear from the riders:
Sevilla – “We were determined to attack because the last 25 kilometers could have led to various scenarios, and there who knows… Anyway, when the group came back together and we were descending towards the finish, I realized I felt good and was in an excellent position. I am very happy with my performance and that of Polti Kometa.”
Fetter – “We knew that in a course like today’s, it’s crucial to stay upfront, and we did that in every moment. I’m happy to have joined the breakaway and maintained the pace. In the final segment, we all managed to cross the line safely and fight for a good placement. That’s great.”
