5th place in Durango for Eleazar Jimenez
The weekend of competition for the development teams was closed by the juniors in the memorial Aitor Bugallo in Durango. The race with 78 kilometres and two decisive mountain passes had the presence of rain and Eleazar Jimenez was 5th in a very select group of riders sprint.
The race started at 15:30 with the warning of possible rain. The cyclists of the team did another day paying special attention in the first kilometres. Iker Díaz managed to get themself on a breakaway of three riders after the first pass through Miota. Shortly afterwards, a group of four riders jumped from the bunch and managed to catch them. Pablo Leno gave the team a presence in the break so that group of seven riders was formed with Díaz and Leno. Their lead never exceeded 45 seconds and was absorbed before the start of the most demanding part of the race.
Within the last 20 kilometres of the race, the bunch began to be selected on the first ascent to Goiuria. About twenty riders crowned the pass with Eleazar Jimenez well placed to score points in the mountain classification. The second climb, even more demanding, caused the group to lose many riders and Jimenez, crowned in a chasing group. The speed of the descent and the presence of rain meant that five riders regrouped at the head of the race with two kilometres to go.
Eleazar Jimenez fought and managed to be in the group that played for the victory and finally finished in 5th place.
Eleazar Jimenez: “We came to the Basque Country to give everything. I am very happy with what I have achieved and with the work and the relationship with my teammates”.
Isaac Cantón, sport team director: “The assessment of the weekend is positive. We rode as a team in complicated race situations. From the first rider to the last, we have been focused from the start. I’m happy with the weekend”:
