7th place for Erik Fetter on the queen stage of CRO Race
EOLO KOMETA’s Hungarian rider rode with power and ambition on the hilly and cobblestone finish of the queen stage of the CRO Race. Seventh place at the finish and identical seventh place for him in the general classification, with only 8 seconds lost on the new leader Sheffield (INEOS).
It was a day of protagonism for the team, which tried to contest the stage from afar with the presence of Mirco Maestri in a breakaway of three riders, which passed the big colossus of the race, the ascent to Poklon (HC). The main peloton didn’t select too much, but it did condemn the breakaway’s chances, neutralised with 70 kilometres to go.
From then on, the strongest teams controlled the race waiting for the final circuit, with a cobbled finish line that put all the favourites on alert for the final lap. EOLO KOMETA worked perfectly, setting up Erik Fetter, and the rider looked for his chance with a strong start inside the last 250 metres. His bravery was rewarded with a seventh place that confirms the great CRO Race for the team, still without dropping out of the top-10.
Erik Fetter: “As a queen stage it was of course a hard day but the team did really well. We tought that the climbs will be more selective and we tried to place Mirco in the breakaway which happened perfectly, thinking about the end of the stage where he could have played a really important role in the fast sections. Finally, the stage was a bit more for the sprinters, but our tactics were still really good, we were in the front group with 4 riders preparing for the final. Finally my sprint on the steep cobble stone finish was not the fastest but I think we can be proud of how we race here every day, always close to the victory and working as a team all day”.
