Vuelta a Burgos: a challenge against WorldTeams

Vuelta a Burgos (2.PRO)
From 5th to 9th august

The high level of participation will mark a Vuelta a Burgos that opens the month of competitive August, with the guarantee of battle and the ambition of great results for Team Polti Kometa.

Five varied days, with the weight of the mountains for the general classification, mark a competition that starts with the middle mountain and the finish in a probable reduced sprint in the capital Burgos. The second and fifth stages, with the arrivals at Ojo Guareña and Treviño could even show a chance for breakaways. The queen stage, with the ascent to Neila, will be the third stage where the general classification will be pretty much on track, although there is still the time trial on the fourth day, completely flat but with more than 18 kilometres that will make the difference.

Team Polti Kometa will compete in the Vuelta a Burgos with a line up formed by the climbers’ block led by Paul Double, and the Italian Davide Piganzoli, who despite the time trial could be a reference for the general classification. Matteo Fabbro will also take the start, looking to regain competition rhythm and all of them with the climb to Neila marked in their objectives. Alongside them, the Colombian Germán Gómez or the young Spaniard Alex Martín will serve as support and will be looking for their own opportunities. In the breakaway options or reduced sprint finishes, the options of Jhonatan Restrepo should allow to obtain great results together with the indispensable experience of Diego Sevilla.

Davide Piganzoli: “It’s a return to competition after two months, where I hope to perform at a high level. I’m ready, the team is ready, so we are looking forward to Burgos”.

Paul Double: “It’s going to be an intense period of racing and we will have to fight against the heat. I know I’m in good condition so I hope to achieve the best possible result in this competition and in the ones to come during the month of August”.

Jesús Hernández, sport director: “The Vuelta a Burgos is a race that forces us to be protagonists in the mountains. I think that Piga, Fabbro and Paul Double will be our references, certainly in Neila, but also looking for a good overall despite the fact that the time trial is not in our favour. In the bunch finishes, our option is Restrepo and we will look for breakaways with Sevilla and Germán Gómez. The level in Burgos is always very high so we will try to achieve the best possible performance”.
