The mountain as the protagonist in the Vuelta a Salamanca
The Vuelta a Salamanca comes in the same context as the Volta a Valencia. After two weeks without competition, the team faces the end of the season in these two stage races to which the Volta a Galicia will be added next week. Six riders will participate in this race where the mountains will have a great presence.
Martín Barrero, Álex García, Pablo García, Antonio González, Manuel Sanroma and Daniel Tenorio will form a high level squad to compete in the race.
The route will be divided into two stages of practically the same mileage. The first stage will have eight mountain passes to overcome. All of them will be of 3rd category except one, which will be of 2nd category at the beginning of the stage. The second and last stage will have a much more favorable route, but a higher mountain difficulty at the beginning of the stage. Paso los Lobos (2nd) will demand the maximum from the cyclists, although they will overcome it with 100 kilometers to go.
Rafael Díaz Justo, sports director: “We are traveling to Salamanca with the Spanish part of the team, with a profile of cyclists who are very good climbers. Since there are only two days of racing, everything is concentrated on the first day and that’s the key to winning the tour. The second day looks like it could be a sprint”.
Antonio González: “I’m looking forward to the race. It’s a beautiful race and it’s a pity that it’s one stage less than last year, but it’s still hard. Personally I expect the first day to be very hard, both in terms of the route and the pace. We have a good team and I’m looking forward to the last races of the season. I’m sure we’ll have a good race.
Stage 1: La Alberca – Ledrada (133km)
Stage 2: Sequeros – Salamanca (134km)
