Team Polti Kometa will compete in the Giro d’Italia for the fourth time in a row
“Amore infinito” is renewed. For the fourth time, and uninterruptedly since 2021, the ProTeam structure of the Alberto Contador Foundation has been invited to compete in the Giro d’Italia. And in this 2024, from 4 to 26 May, it will take its new Gsport kit colours to the pink race: the white, red and green of the renewed Team Polti Kometa, the same colours of the Italian flag.
A team that has fully justified this participation since that magical 2021, conquering the Zoncolan with Lorenzo Fortunato and repeating on the Gran Sasso in 2023 with Davide Bais, along with a week dressed in the maglia azzurra of best climber. Two victories in three seasons, the only Italian ProTeam to have won stages in the Giro so far this decade. Added to this are two more podiums (Gavazzi in 2021, second in Guardia Sanframondi and Albanese in 2022, third in Jesi) and many kilometres in breakaways.
Not only that. Along with those for the Giro, invitations have arrived for other highly prestigious races organized by RCS Sport, such as Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Milan-Sanremo.
“Teams like ours have been talking about wild cards since the pre-season training camps – says team sport manager Ivan Basso – and to receive the invitation to the Giro and other prestigious events is a source of great pride, a reward for our continuity and our way of tackling the races beyond the results. The Giro will be the centrepiece of the entire Polti Kometa calendar and we will ride it with the right mentality: attacking but in an organised way, to take advantage of every opportunity and reward the organisers, the fans, the sponsors… and ourselves for the trust placed in us”.
An enthusiasm shared by Fran Contador, general manager of Team Polti Kometa: “For a team like ours, being at the start of a Grand Tour like the Giro d’Italia is fundamental, it is vital. It allows us to continue to grow as a structure, it allows us to continue to grow on a sporting level and also to guarantee a return at the highest level for our sponsors, for the brands that have placed their trust in us. Today is a very special and satisfying day, which motivates us to continue working to make a great Giro d’Italia but in general a great season to live up to this invitation”.
