Fetter: “I tried, but… pity for cramps”.
International Coppi & Bartali Week
2nd stage: Riccione-Longiano (165.9 km)
An attack, dry, about ten kilometers from the end: to surprise everyone, and then to try to win the stage. It didn’t go as dreamed, but Fetter’s day was positive anyway: a full of confidence for the next days, and for the next races.
Erik Fetter: “Today I felt really good and really strong, it made me happy and I was really hoping for a good result in the final today. On the last lap I attacked, and found myself alone at the top of the last climb. Then, a small group of riders fighting for the finish line caught up with me and I stayed with them until the end of the descent. Just after a turn, I tried to relaunch, but my legs cramped and I couldn’t pedal anymore. I had to stop and recover from the cramp and then resume pedaling, there were five kilometers to go and it was really a pity because I was in front. But the sensations today were really good, and this is positive: in the next stages, I’ll try again”.
